Privacy policy

The short version: Universal DM runs on your PC, keeps your download list and settings on your PC, and this website doesn't track you.

Last updated: 21 September 2026

1. Who this policy covers

This policy explains how the Universal DM desktop application for Windows ("the app") and the Universal DM website ("the site") handle information. It applies to both, and by using either you agree to what's described here.

2. No accounts, no profiling

The app has no sign-up, no login and no user profile. We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number to download or use it, and we don't build advertising profiles of you.

3. What the app stores — and where

Everything the app knows about your downloads stays on your own computer:

  • Download list and history — file names, URLs, sizes, progress and queue membership.
  • Settings — download folder, threads, concurrency, speed limits, proxy details, torrent engine options and automation toggles.
  • Torrent metadata — magnet links, .torrent files and their progress.
  • Partial files — kept on disk so an interrupted download can resume.

This data is written to the app's local data folder and your chosen download folder. Uninstalling the app does not delete your downloaded files; you can remove the app's data folder at any time.

4. Media sniffing happens locally

When media sniffing is active, the app inspects the page you're viewing to find video and audio stream addresses so it can offer them for download. That inspection happens on your machine. The stream URLs it finds are used only to download the media you asked for — they are not sent to us or collected centrally.

5. Network connections the app makes

  • To the sites you download from. Your requests go straight from your PC to that server. We are not in the middle, and we never see your traffic, your files or your credentials for those sites.
  • To your proxy, if you configure one. Proxy settings are used only to route the traffic you asked to route.
  • Torrent peers. BitTorrent is peer-to-peer by design: when you download or seed a torrent, other peers can see your IP address and your client. That is how the protocol works, and it is worth knowing before you use it.
  • Update checks. If the app checks for a new version, that request may include the app version and your IP address, which is unavoidable for any web request.

6. This website

The site is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and does not embed social media pixels. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) for security and operations, as virtually all web hosts do.

7. Third-party services and sites

Content you download belongs to whoever published it, and the terms and privacy policies of those sites apply to your use of them. We have no control over, and take no responsibility for, the practices of third-party sites.

8. Children

The app and the site are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

9. Your control over your data

Because the app keeps your data on your own device, you are in control of it: delete individual entries in the app, remove downloaded files from disk, or delete the app's local data folder to clear everything at once.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. Significant changes will be described in the release notes of the relevant version.
